A new chapter in the history of Brighton and Hove City Council begins tomorrow (Thursday), as the local authority starts using a new leadership model.

The council had been employing the committee system, but will now start using the executive leader and cabinet model. Under the new arrangement, the leader will be elected by the entire council, and then he or she will appoint a cabinet of up to nine councillors.

The cabinet will operate as the executive decision-making body.
