While the dominant images broadcast during August's disorder in London were of burning shops and looters running amok on our streets, the pictures that captured my imagination came from Clapham Junction.

Assembled on a broken high street and wielding brooms was an army of about 150 local people and other Londoners answering a plea on social media networks. They were there to clean up the streets and reclaim their community. Many came from other parts of London to show solidarity.
