Most housing benefit claims 'below £100 a week'

According to figures released by the Department for Work and Pensions, more than 80% of all housing benefit claims are less than £100 a week.

More than 80% of all housing benefit (HB) claims are for less than £100 a week – with only five families claiming £100,000 a year towards housing costs –according to figures released by the Department for Work and Pensions.

The figures, obtained from a Freedom of Information request by transparency group Full Fact, challenge claims that high-cost benefit families are forcing councils to relocate some households to other areas (see above).
