Mouchel has revealed an increase in revenue and pre-tax profits for the year ending 31 July 2009. The consultancy reported revenue of £740.6m – up 13% – while its profits were up by 3% to £40.1m before tax. More than two-fifths (41%) of this revenue derived from the organisation's government services business. The firm said the highlights from its public sector work included a further four-year extension of its 10-year flagship strategic partnership with Lincolnshire CC. It also revealed it was in advanced talks with Middlesbrough Council on a five-year extension to its existing contract with the authority, and was down to two on a shortlist for a 10-year bundled services partnership with North East Lincolnshire Council. The firm said its education business would continue to focus on the provision of education improvement and property services through the city academy and BSF programmes, as well as to local authority schools. Richard Cuthbert, chief executive of the Mouchel Group, said the challenging outlook of the economy brought a source of potential opportunities for the firm. ‘We do believe we will continue to benefit from sustained levels of public expenditure in our core markets, and the inevitable focus on the provision of essential services and maintenance of vital infrastructure. ‘We are also well placed to help our clients reduce costs and deliver public services more cheaply and efficiently.' He added that these developments and the firm's strong order book (£1.9bn) and bidding pipeline (£2.2bn) meant the organisation remained confident about its long-term prospects.
