Maverick MP George Galloway has called for people who have been disqualified from being company directors to also be banned from standing as councillors.
The newly-elected Bradford West MP has written to housing minister Grant Shapps, calling for a change in the law to prevent those who have been barred from holding directorships from also holding public office.
