London boroughs have received a new range of powers from the Government to make the capital a greener place to live. The London Local Authorities Act came into effect yesterday (Wednesday) and gives the London boroughs increased powers to tackle environmental problems, such as fly-tipping and abandoned vehicles. Under the Act, councils will be able to take direct action against illegal street traders and people who throw litter from their cars.
