Councils which have developed innovative ways of maintaining Sure Start children's centres were due to be questioned by a cross-party group of MPs this week, as part of an inquiry into the sustainability of the under-threat programme.

Representatives from Manchester City Council were recalled by the All Party Parliamentary Sure Start Group to explain their proposed model of visiting children in their homes and turning the centres into ‘community assets' providing a range of services.
