MPs reveal 'obscene' cost of failure to get IT advice

Influential Commons committee says the Government not seeking advice on how departments spend money with IT suppliers could lead to missing targets.

An influential Commons committee has claimed the Government's failure to secure external advice on how departments spend money with large IT suppliers will condemn it to missing cost-reduction targets.

According to a new report by the public administration select committee, Government and IT – a recipe for further rip-offs, the Cabinet Office's failure to endorse its calls for specialist advisers and the National Audit Office to conduct investigations made it impossible to identify overcharging, ‘leading to the waste of an obscene amount of public money'.
