Regions such as the East Midlands have historically struggled to drive economic growth. This is set to change. With the leadership of the East Midlands Mayor Claire Ward and initiatives like the East Midlands Freeport, the region is now well positioned to foster inclusive growth for the UK.

In the refreshed Industrial Strategy and new Industrial Strategy Zones Action Plan, freeports are recognised not as experiments, but as delivery platforms for clean energy, innovation and national competitiveness.
