A senior Local Government Association (LGA) figure has called for a national conversation over the role of councils in improving neighbourhoods.

Speaking after Government figures showed that fewer than three-quarters of people were satisfied with their area as a place to live, Jane Scullion said the conversation must focus on residents' expectations and the extent to which local authorities could meet them.
