A senior councillor who waged a war of words with ministers over local government's transparency agenda this week went cap in hand to Whitehall, asking for an improved grant settlement for his authority.

Cllr Graham Chapman, Labour's deputy leader of Nottingham City Council, has written to the city's three MPs calling on them to lobby ministers for more money ahead of an expected £22m budget cut for 2012/13. It follows a £60m budget cut at Nottingham this year.
