The North East as a region suffers the greatest number of households without work (24%), and Liverpool is the area with the highest percentage of jobless households in the country (31.9%), figures compiled by the GMB trade union indicate.
Based on the Office for National Statistics annual population survey, which was issued at the end of 2011, the analysis suggests Wales (22.5%) and Northern Ireland (22.4%) have the next highest rates of joblessness regionally, and Nottingham (31.5%) and Glasgow (30.8%) the greatest proportion by area.
