Plans have been backed by the Liberal Democrat conference to ‘radically' transform the NHS into a ‘people's health service'. Lib Dem leader, Nick Clegg, said he wanted citizens to have a more direct say in the NHS. ‘The power to run their local health service by standing for election to their local health board. This is real democracy,' he said. LGA Lib Dem leader, Cllr Richard Kemp, said he was ‘particularly pleased' over the strong relations between local government and MPs, especially in relation to the future of health boards.
