Luton Airport has promised a public consultation on any future plan to fly up to 30 million passengers a year from its site.

Luton Airport has promised a public consultation on any future plan to fly up to 30 million passengers a year from its site – but promised its immediate focus was on a programme to increase capacity from 10 million to 18 million passengers annually.

Local operator, London Luton Airport Operations Ltd, has already held a meeting with the former Infrastructure Planning Commission, but said: ‘A 30 million people a year project is not being pursued for the time being. If this was ever to be pursued, the proposal would have to be subject to the rigorous environmental-impact assessment processes and public consultation that apply under the Planning Act 2008.'
