Northamptonshire CC assistant chief executive, Steve Stewart, has been chosen to lead the new Northumberland unitary council. Mr Stewart's appointment was given the thumbs-up at a full council meeting last week. He is expected to start work in early September. Before taking the job as assistant chief executive at Northamptonshire, Mr Stewart was assistant chief executive/ director of culture at Wakefield MDC. Prior to that, he was head of corporate strategy at Middlesbrough Council. ‘It is a privilege for me to be able to return to the North East in such a wonderful place,' said Mr Stewart. ‘Northumberland has a great history and, by working together with councillors, employees and partners, we will create a new piece of that history – a council which provides the best-possible services and is a strong voice for our people.' The four executive directors who will be responsible for services at the new authority have also been announced. Daljit Lally will be executive director for adult social care, the executive director of performance will be Jill Dixon, the executive director of place will be Richard Robson, and the executive director of people will be Trevor Doughty. Oldham MBC's new chief executive is Charlie Parker, currently director of investment and performance for English Partnerships. Mr Parker's appointment was expected to have been confirmed at a council meeting yesterday, after The MJ went to press. He is expected to take up his appointment in October and will succeed Andrew Kilburn, who is leaving to become chief executive of Waltham Forest LBC. Prior to working at English Partnerships, Mr Parker also worked for Liverpool City Council and Manchester City Council.
