Occupational pension membership at 50-year low

Membership of occupational pension schemes is at its lowest level since the 1950s.

Membership of occupational pension schemes is at its lowest level since the 1950s. Official figures indicate that the retirement pot exodus is hitting the public sphere hard – including local government.

Data published last week by the Office for National Statistics shows that the number of people paying into occupational pension schemes nationally has fallen from 8.7 million in 2009 to just 8.3 million.
