Oldham chief remains in charge as council remains leaderless

Oldham Council is to write to the secretary of state Angela Rayner after councillors again failed to elect a leader, leaving chief executive Shelley Kipling in charge of the authority.

Oldham Council is to write to the secretary of state Angela Rayner after councillors again failed to elect a leader, leaving chief executive Shelley Kipling in charge of the authority.

A council spokesperson said monitoring officer Alex Bougatef would formally advise the Government of the situation but stressed that services continue to operate as normal and arrangements remain in place for the council to meet its statutory duties.
