Local government ombudsmen have dealt with more than 18,000 complaints in the past year. The ombudsmen decided 18,192 complaints in 2006/07, but just under one-third of those complainants (29%) obtained redress. Serious faults about anti-social behaviour, homelessness and the links between social care and housing are among 63 cases highlighted in the Local Government Ombudsmen's 11th annual Digest of cases. Cases are featured to maximise the benefit of the ombudsmen's work by sharing it with local authorities. The selection included three cases in which vulnerable people suffered because of councils' failures.
