Camden LBC took a group of local residents to Paris at the weekend to mark the opening of St Pancras International railway station. The group of 56 residents included winners of the London borough's society awards, local schoolchildren, community groups and those affected by the building of the new station. St Pancras, which now offers Eurostar services to Paris and Brussels, is part of a larger regeneration project around the Kings Cross area. There will also be affordable housing, a primary school and new leisure facilities. The regeneration of Kings Cross is expected to create up to 25,000 new jobs, and the council has started several initiatives to make sure local people reap the benefits. ‘This is an exciting time to live and work in Camden,' said deputy council leader, Andrew Marshall. ‘The community train trip was a real opportunity for residents to experience first hand the benefits of having Europe on our doorstep. ‘This supports our ambition to make Camden a leading borough of opportunity, with job opportunities and commercial and community activities for all.'
