Twenty-nine parish councils have 'failed in an important and statutory duty' the Audit Commission has reported.

Twenty-nine parish councils have ‘failed in an important and statutory duty' by not producing annual returns for 2010/11, the Audit Commission has reported.

The local spending watchdog said the councils ‘failed to account to council taxpayers for the use and safeguarding of their money', in a series of public interest reports published on 7 October.
