Parishes fear being 'out of pocket' over CTB reforms

Local tax precept could be raised next year by the Government's decision not offer parish councils financial protection.

Parish councils have warned the Government's decision not to offer them financial protection when the council tax benefit (CTB) regime is localised means they could be forced to hike up their local tax precept significantly from next year.

Members of the National Association of Local Councils (NALC), which represents parishes, met last week to discuss ministers' CTB proposals, under which the benefit will be devolved to localities from April 2013.
