Nine parish councils have simultaneously been castigated by the Audit Commission for their failure to prepare adequate annual accounts.
The watchdog published a series of critical ‘public interest' reports on the nine parishes last week, amid lingering fears that smaller councils, or ‘meetings' as many parishes are known, do not have a sufficient grasp of their financial obligations.
