Campaigners against a pioneering plan to charge a levy on parking spaces have stepped up their opposition. Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce has conducted a poll which claims plans by Nottinghamshire City Council to start charging have support from only 5% of local people. Results claimed around 95% of respondents believed the tax would make Nottingham a less attractive place to do business. A spokesman said: ‘The results are in line with the council's own research, and its own submission to the Government's transport select committee.' The council argues the cost of congestion to businesses far outweighs the cost of the levy on businesses.
