Parsons faces new probe into 'unpaid' European expenses

Leicestershire CC's leader, Cllr David Parsons, is facing fresh controversy this week, after The MJ discovered he still owes £1,875 for European-related expenses – despite his recent claim that ‘no amounts are outstanding from me'.

Cllr Parsons was last week handed a reprieve following a legal investigation into expenses incurred through his role at the European Committee of the Regions (CoR). Lawyers advised Leicestershire's standards sub-committee that Cllr Parsons had breached the authority's code of conduct four times. But under local government's hastily revised standards regime (see page 2), the committee merely delivered strong censure to Cllr Parsons.
