This was clinched by last month's victory against Tories in Ore ward. The party had taken power in May by one seat, pending the outcome of that contest. Labour also came from nowhere to win a seat from the Liberal Democrats in East Lindsey DC, forcing them into fourth place.

However, the hugely varying swings last month meant there was no clear pattern as to how party voting support had changed under the Liberal-Conservative coalition government. Tories gained an independent seat in Wellingborough BC, in a result which also saw a big Labour slump.
