Pay rates restored

The trade union Unite has claimed, Southampton City Council is set to become the first local authority to reverse pay cuts imposed on staff.

Labour-controlled Southampton City Council is set to become the first local authority to reverse pay cuts imposed on staff since the coalition government came to power, the trade union Unite has claimed.

The authority plans to put £2.3m back into its wage bill – a move the union reports would result in 3,460 of the 4,000 workers affected by previous pay cuts having their wages fully restored.
