One-third of workers at Glasgow City Council have demanded a review of their pay and conditions. More than 9,000 of the council's 30,000 staff have demanded the reviews, which are part of a pay restructuring programme. A Glasgow City Council spokesman said: ‘Several reviews have taken place and some people have already seen their place in the structure improve.' Bolton MBC held its first round of equal pay settlements last week. A council spokesman said 399 people were invited to the town hall to sign new agreements, and 383 turned up. ‘Staff picked up about £840,000, and some collected individual cheques for £8,000,' said the spokesman. Bolton will hold more sessions next month, and in March. Northumberland CC has defended its decision not to include the cost of equal pay in its business case for unitary status. ‘We have a number of cases which we are contesting,' a council spokesman said. ‘This is an issue which would equally affect either one single or two unitary councils, and would not be affected by re-organisation.'
