A 10-fold increase in equal pay claims over the last five years has also fuelled a hike in employment tribunals caused by payroll systems, new research suggests. A survey by Employment Law Advisory Services found 100,000 tribunals, including many dealing with local government staff, ‘are prompted by complaints about unauthorised deductions from pay packets and demands for wage equality'.
