PCCs 'must swear oath of office'

The Home Office has confirmed, newly elected police and crime commissioners will be forced to swear an oath of office.

Newly-elected police and crime commissioners (PCCs) will be forced to swear an oath of office stressing their commitment to impartial public service, the Home Office has confirmed.

First proposed by the Association of Police Authority Chief Executives and the Association of Police Authorities, officials believe the declaration – to be combined with PCCs signing an acceptance of office – will help the public understand the commissioners' new roles in overseeing police forces.
