The chief executive of High Peak BC, Peter Sloman, has been named as new top officer at Oxford City Council. Mr Sloman has been chief executive at High Peak BC, which has an ‘excellent' CPA rating, for seven years, and will take up his new post on 20 August. He also worked at Slough BC for 10 years, where he was strategic director for town services, and is an advisor to the LGA on workforce management issues. Mr Sloman takes over from interim chief executive Brian Dinsdale, who was brought in after the previous top officer, Caroline Bull, left in January. Ms Bull had joined Oxford from the South West Regional Development Agency in 2004. Mr Dinsdale, former boss at both Middlesborough and Hartlepool councils, helped steer Oxford through an unitary bid, which failed to make it on to the final DCLG shortlist. ‘It was an unanimous and enthusiastic choice by the cross-party appointment panel group,' said council leader, John Goddard. ‘We were impressed by his commitment to ensuring our council delivers real improvements for local residents. ‘Mr Sloman's successes, including High Peak BC recently being awarded the Charter mark, which is a quality award for outstanding customer services.' And Mr Sloman said: ‘I am looking forward to working with Oxford city councillors, and the council's wider partners, to deliver improvements in the quality of life for everyone in the city. ‘During the selection process, I was impressed by the collective determination of councillors and staff to improve the quality of the council's services and their value for money. ‘My job will be to build on the progress which has already been made, and to ensure it meets residents' aspirations.'
