Wirral MBC has agreed to pay a suspended former acting chief executive his £80,000 pension to avoid ‘protracted and uncertain' legal proceedings, potentially running to £1m in costs.

Ian Coleman has agreed to leave Wirral MBC and will receive his pension, despite being suspended from his role as director of finance, together with three other officers earlier this year, after the Audit Commission found ‘significant failings' in the awarding of highways contract.
