Out of area placements continue to rise

London boroughs top the list of councils exporting homeless households out of their areas as the practice grows, latest figures have shown.

Data released last week by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) showed more than 43,000 households were placed out of area (OOA) in the last quarter of 2025 – a rise of 4.8% on the same period a year earlier.
