Two insiders have taken the top jobs in the latest chief executive appointments. Steve Pleasant has been confirmed at Tameside MBC, where he is currently acting chief executive. Mr Pleasant has worked at the council all his working life, mainly managing corporate services. He has been involved in mentoring with a range of councils on issues such as performance management, local strategic partnerships, area assemblies, scrutiny, and local public area agreements. He is also lead officer for the North West Regional Centre of Excellence, and has taken on the leading role in the development of the new Regional Improvement and Efficiency Partnership, which replaces it from April. Mr Pleasant, who takes over from Janet Callender, said: ‘The council is well run and has a deservedly good reputation. Despite this, though, there are many challenges ahead and I look forward to working closely with the leader, members and employees in developing and improving services for local people, and working to remain at the forefront of local government.' Antoinette Jackson described it as a ‘real privilege' to be appointed as the new chief executive of Cambridge City Council, where she is currently director of customer and democratic services. Ms Jackson began in local government as a trainee committee administrator at Reading BC, later managing the council's policy unit. She then moved to Camden LBC, where she was head of quality and customer services. She joined Cambridge 10 years ago as head of strategy and partnerships, and was made director of customer and democratic services eight years later. She will take over from current chief executive, Rob Hammond, who retires on 9 June.
