Police investigating £38,000 that went missing at a district council in Suffolk have closed their investigation despite failing to trace the money. Suffolk police were called in by Conservative-run Waveney DC after money that should have been paid to the authority in 2003 was never received. Officials have now written off the cash after detectives said the audit trail had dried up. The money was handled by one of the council's external partners, but the organisation no longer possessed paperwork for 2003. A Suffolk police spokesman said there was ‘no evidence of any wrongdoing by council staff'.
