A body representing all police authorities in England, Wales and Northern Ireland has pledged to work with the Home Office to ensure elections for police and crime commissioners, which take place on 15 November 2012, are not ‘tainted with low turnouts or unfit candidates'.
Cllr Mark Burns-Williamson, chair of the Association of Police Authorities, said the importance of who was directly elected to ‘police the police' should not be underestimated.
