West Midlands police authority has suspended plans to privatise core services until after the Olympics, to allow public consultation.

Under the ‘Business partnering for police programme' – which ministers hope to see rolled-out across all 43 police forces nationally – core services, including 999 call handling, prisoner transfer and forensic science would be transferred to a commercial provider. Surrey Police recently postponed a similar deal for middle and back office functions until autumn.
