The soaring costs of fuel and water are placing the future of public swimming pools under threat. Council and business leaders and sports organisations have written to sports minister Richard Caborn calling on him to help bridge the funding gap and keep swimming pools afloat. The LGA's regeneration board chairman, Cllr ~Chris White~ said: ‘The harsh reality is that in many cases councils need hard cash to give swimming the kiss of life.' A spokesman for the minister said he would respond in due course.
