Council leaders in London have promised an all-out fight in the campaign against the closure of local post offices. The boroughs' organisation, London Councils, has warned that plans to axe 171 branches in the capital will have a devastating impact on the capital's elderly and vulnerable people, who rely most on the local services. London Councils' chairman, Merrick Cockell, promised: ‘We will fight these closures to the very end. The local post office is the lifeblood of London's streets. ‘Closures of this magnitude would be senseless, short-sighted and potentially damaging to both local businesses and London's most vulnerable people.'
