Failure to give councils significant new powers under the Localism Bill would be a ‘huge own goal', claims the director of think-tank the New Local Government Network (NGLN).
Simon Parker urged MPs to drive radical new thinking at the report stage of the Bill, including the right for councils to bid for central government service areas, such as welfare, criminal justice and policing.
