Councils and emergency services across the country are bracing themselves for the worst night of the year for anti-social behaviour. Hallowe'en last year left a grim trail of devastation, and councils are expecting more of the same this week. Edinburgh City Council and its partners have organised a play to tour local schools to highlight the dangers. Inspector Dennis Hunter, of Lothian and Borders Police Safer Communities, said: ‘Every year, the city's emergency services receive numerous call-outs regarding injuries or disturbances because of improper use of fireworks.' An LGA spokesman said: ‘Every year, Hallowe'en fills many people with dread, especially the elderly, who can be left feeling too scared to answer the door. Councils are encouraging parents to make sure they know where their children are on Hallowe'en night so they can be sure the fun doesn't turn into genuine fright.'
