Primary schools could face a decrease in funding of almost 8% under government plans to reform funding formulas, county councils have claimed.
In a letter to education secretary Michael Gove, Cambridgeshire CC's cabinet member for learning, Cllr David Harty, warns the 2012/13 budget for primary schools will be reduced by £84,000 (-7.8%), while some smaller secondary schools will be £501,000 (-15.3%) worse off. Cllr Harty said the figures did not take into account the Government's proposed two-year minimum-funding guarantee, and would be ‘exacerbated' in areas where pupil numbers were decreasing.
