Two hundred years after the abolition of slavery, the prime minister of Barbados has officially reopened the Wilberforce House Museum. Owen Arthur reopened the museum, in what was William Wilberforce's family home, after a £1.6m redevelopment by partners, including Hull City Council. Hull's leader, Carl Minns, said: ‘The city of Hull is proud of Wilberforce's legacy and the parliamentary fight he led to abolish the slave trade.' The museum will welcome visitors to the city from across the UK and beyond, and is the highlight in Hull's award-winning museums quarter.
