Prioritising stroke is an evidence-based choice for councils

Piling pressure on a crumbling system won’t support stroke survivors, says Juliet Bouverie.

The UK's population is ageing rapidly, with the number of people aged 80 and over projected to grow significantly over the coming years. Whilst this is largely a positive move, it does come with some obvious impacts on an already overstretched social care system. 

 By 2035, two thirds of adults over 65 are expected to live with multiple health conditions, including stroke. 1.4 million stroke survivors already live in the UK. As the leading cause of complex adult disability, stroke robs people of their independence, ability to work and quality of life.
