The Conservative's Sustainable Communities Bill was given a boost this week when Nick Hurd, MP, backed it after coming top in a ballot for Private Member's Bills, increasing its chances of becoming law. Drafted in consultation with Local works, a cross-party campaign supported by thousands of councils and individuals, the Bill sets out how to transfer power from central government to local communities. ‘We need to let communities take action on their own initiative,' said Mr Hurd.
