Attempts to bring public services into the private sector by successive Labour and Conservative governments have created more problems than they claimed to solve, according to the TUC. A pamphlet published this week analyses successive market initiatives by different governments, and suggests the Government justified some of the failing private sector plans by widening its ‘claims' about the benefits. TUC general secretary, Brendan Barber, said: ‘Politicians of all parties now have a knee-jerk preference for private sector solutions, and seem to have lost all faith in the ability of public servants to deliver quality public services.'
