Coastguards and driving examiners staged a series of walkouts on 8 June over planned closures to what they view as key services.

The industrial action forms part of a month-long series of strikes organised by the Public and Commercial Services (PCS) trade union. In addition to coalition plans to shut down coastguard bases and driving centres, the union is also campaigning over pensions, pay and job cuts affecting the Department for Transport (DfT) and its agencies – including the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency.
