Council chiefs in Northern Ireland ‘remain sceptical' about the timetable and financial assumptions underpinning the devolved administration's reform programme, under which the country's 26 councils will be merged into 11.

President of the Northern Ireland Local Government Association (NILGA), Cllr Sean McPeake, said: ‘The sector is utterly clear about the need for – and is determined to get – strong local government.
