The Audit Commission has launched the first stage of its consultation on the new Comprehensive Area Assessment (CAA). The CAA will take over from the current CPA system of assessing local government in 2009. The commission has now published a consultation document, The transition from CPA to CAA, which includes questions relating to CPA 2007, and the changeover from the current system to the next one in 2008/09. A number of changes are being considered for the transitional year, including possible amendments to service assessments for single-tier and county councils. Chief executive, Steve Bundred, said: ‘The development of CAA represents a major opportunity to shape the future of public service regulation.' An online consultation form is available at the Audit Commission website, www.audit-commission.gov.uk.
