Four authorities in Yorkshire are to get millions of pounds in government funding to build better playgrounds. Rotherham MBC and East Riding of Yorkshire Council have been given more than £2m each to build adventure playgrounds for ‘tweens' – eight to 13-year-olds – in a bid to curb anti-social behaviour. Meanwhile, Calderdale MBC and Kirklees MBC will receive £1m each to upgrade play areas for younger children as part of a national programme to improve play areas.
