Councils and householders are recycling more waste than ever before, according to new figures from DEFRA. The figures showed that 94% of councils recycled and composted more of their household waste in 2006/7 than in 2005/6, and 88% of authorities landfilled less of their municipal waste than in the previous year. ‘These statistics show that many householders and local authorities have got the reduce, reuse and recycle message and are doing a great job,' said climate change minister, Joan Ruddock.
